Frequently asked questions
What is an FPV camera?
An FPV, first-person-view, camera is a small, low-latency camera mounted on the drone that feeds a live video signal to your goggles or screen in real time, so you see the flight from the aircraft's point of view rather than watching it from the ground.
What's the difference between analog and digital FPV cameras?
Analog cameras send a lower-resolution video signal with minimal delay and are generally cheaper and more tolerant of signal degradation at range. Digital systems, such as DJI, Walksnail, and HDZero, send a much sharper HD image but cost more and are typically heavier.
Is FPV flying legal in the UK?
Same framework as under our other categories: you need an Operator ID and Flyer ID from the CAA, plus an observer or recognised exemption for FPV specifically, along with the standard altitude and no-fly zone limits.
Are all analog FPV systems compatible with each other?
Mostly yes for the video signal itself, since analog FPV cameras and goggles or receivers generally share the same standard, but check camera voltage input range and connector type against your specific flight stack before buying.
