This policy explains what personal data Build A Drone collects, why, and what your rights are. It covers both buildadrone.co.uk (the shop) and app.buildadrone.co.uk (the build configurator) - one brand, two systems, and this page is honest about both.
Build A Drone is a trading name of Automated Europe Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16951017, registered office 10 Smiths Drive, Swansea, Wales, SA1 7GB), the data controller for the personal data described here.
What we collect
When you buy something: name, delivery address, email, phone number (if you give one), and order details. Payment card details are handled directly by Shopify Payments or PayPal - we never see or store your full card number.
When you create an account: Shopify's own hosted account system holds your login and order history; we don't run a separate account database.
When you use the build configurator (app.buildadrone.co.uk): your build is saved against a random, non-guessable link rather than an account or your name. You don't need to sign in or give us any personal data to design a build; we only see who you are if that build goes on to become an order.
When you sign up for build notes (our newsletter): your email address, via Shopify's own customer form. You can unsubscribe at any time, from the email itself or by contacting us.
When you contact us: whatever you send us, kept for as long as reasonably needed to deal with your query and afterward as our own record.
Browsing data: standard technical data (device, browser, pages viewed) via cookies and similar technology, described in "Cookies and analytics" below.
Why we collect it, and on what basis
- To take and fulfil your order, and handle any return: necessary to perform our contract with you.
- To answer your questions and handle support: our legitimate interest in running the business, and to perform any contract already in place.
- To send you build notes, if you opted in: your consent, withdrawable at any time.
- For analytics and advertising cookies: your consent, given or withheld through the cookie banner (see below) - these do not run before you've made a choice.
- To meet our own legal obligations, for example keeping records for tax and accounting purposes.
Who we share it with
- Shopify, who host this store and process payments and orders on our behalf, and hosted-account details if you create one.
- Payment providers (Shopify Payments, PayPal), to take payment.
- Suppliers, who need your name and delivery address to ship the part you ordered directly to you. Because we source from a supplier network based partly outside the UK, this means your name and delivery address are sent to a supplier outside the UK to fulfil your order - the minimum needed to get the part to you, and nothing more.
- Analytics and advertising services (Google Analytics, Meta), only once you've consented via the cookie banner. See "Cookies and analytics" below.
- We do not sell your personal data.
Cookies and analytics
This site uses Shopify's own cookie consent banner to ask for your choices on analytics and marketing cookies before they run. You can change your mind at any time using "Cookie settings" in the footer.
If you've already made a choice on this storefront, the build configurator at app.buildadrone.co.uk can read that choice too, so you're not asked twice. This works through a small first-party cookie (bad_consent, shared across buildadrone.co.uk) that stores only your consent choices (analytics, marketing, preferences, and a timestamp) - never your name, email, or anything that identifies you personally.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- correct it if it's wrong
- delete it, where we're not required to keep it (for example, for tax records)
- restrict or object to how we use it
- receive it in a portable format
To do any of this, contact us. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) if you think we've got this wrong, though we'd rather you told us first.
How long we keep it
We keep personal data for as long as it's needed for the reasons above, and afterward only as long as we're required to for accounting, tax, or legal reasons.
Children
This site is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll update the date at the top rather than change what we do silently.
